Scooterbabe at WUOG
Scooterbabe’s self-titled EP was ranked among WUOG’s top local albums of 2013, and this week these Athens-based twee-poppers have landed the No. 23 spot at the station’s Top 30. Through these five tracks, the band seamlessly traverses ’90s alt territory with a lo-fi smirk and jangly guitars in search of what we can only imagine is the coolest girl in the world. Go Scooterbabe, go!
Chapel Hill got a taste of some modern Czech jazz piano this week, courtesy of pianist and composer Beata Hlavenkova’s new album Theodoros. The beautiful album is a delicate composition that showcases Hlavenkova’s dexterity and keen layering sensibility. Each of the twelve songs on the album are named for the months of the year, and feature Hlavenkova as the only performer.
CHIRP Radio in Chicago showed some pride for their local scene this week by helping local progressive garage-poppers She Speaks In Tongues reach the No. 7 spot in their Top 30. Their gloria, GUITAR release is a relentless and blistering take on Them’s anthemic garage rock classic Gloria (or the Patti Smith version, if you prefer), where they also pepper in some Janis Joplin for good measure.
