Each week the CMJ staff sifts through thousands of radio playlists that contribute to the weekly CMJ charts. In the Chart Discovery column, we highlight exciting artists, albums, and songs brought to our attention by the charts of our reporting panel of college and non-commercial radio stations. This round’s favorites come to us via WESU in Middletown, CT, CKUW in Winnipeg, MB, and KCSB in Santa Barbara, CA.

With its hip-hop and R&B rhythms joining earworm samples (notably Beyonce’s “Party” and Disclosure’s “Latch”) ESTA’s EP, Paradise, climbs onto WESU’s chart and settles into the No. 22 spot.

Italian beatmaker Cristiano Crisci has created a collection of pounding tribal drums that winds through a woozy jungle, only to land at No. 8 on CKUW’s RPM chart with his latest EP, Tambacounda.

Caloncho on KCSB

On the heels of a cruel winter, chill beach dreams are Guadalajara-based Calonche’s forte. KCSB knows what up, charting his Fruta EP at No. 9. Can we don our sunglasses and swimsuits yet?
