Welcome to day three of CMJ Music Marathon. We’ve reached the halfway point of this year’s event, but there’s so much more to come that Here Ye is collapsing under the weight of information at our disposal. Today you could see the Walkmen, or a Sub Pop showcase, or GZA performing the classic Liquid Swords in its entirety. If you really put your mind to it you might be able to do all those things. To help you decide exactly what to do, we’ve whittled the list of artists down to just 10 essential picks in the list below.

Make sure you check back in with us over the coming days for more tips on artists to see, panels to attend, parties to be seen at, and much more.

01. The Walkmen @ Terminal 5

One of the biggest acts at this year’s CMJ Music Marathon are these hometown boys performing a victory lap off the back of this year’s Heaven album. The cavernous Terminal 5 will no doubt provide a suitably grand backing for Hamilton Leithauser’s expansive songs.

02. GZA @ Irving Plaza

Artists performing full-album shows are a common sight these days, but none come much better than seeing original Wu-Tang member GZA playing the classic Liquid Swords in full. Bring a chess set for maximum effect.

03. Joey BadA$$ @ S.O.B.’s

04. Tokimonsta @ CMJ Union

Skrillex’s touring buddy Tokimonsta brings razor-sharp beats to this showcase at CMJ Union, which also features MNDR and Unicorn Kid. Read CMJ’s Q&A with Tokimonsta here.

05. DIIV @ Music Hall Of Williamsburg

Captured Tracks has so many artists at this year’s CMJ that it’s difficult to know where to turn. Fortunately they’ve made things easier by staging this label showcase, which includes a headline set from Brooklyn rock act DIIV.

06. Pig Destroyer @ Public Assembly

Grindcore doesn’t come much more brutal than Pig Destroyer, who may not sacrifice any actual pigs on stage but will bring an unholy noise to this showcase from 1000 Knives/Metal Sucks/Metal Injection.

07. MNDR @ Bowery Ballroom

Amanda Warner and Peter Wade, aka MNDR, will hit the stage around midnight at this second show at Bowery Ballroom today. Expect generous lashings of synthpop and the sound some are calling “indietronica.”

08. Daughn Gibson @ The Knitting Factory

This former truck driver turned deep-throated singer is a new signing to Sub Pop who works his moody vocals around samples of country and gospel songs. Read our Q&A with Gibson here.
